Origins
Since our origins in 1997 as Friends of the Lizard, the Lizard Peninsula
Heritage Trust (the Lizard Trust) has become a fast growing organisation,
with an increasing membership among both residents and visitors. We are
evolving a wider interest in all matters that contribute to the natural,
historic and man-made environments of the Lizard Peninsula, with the twin
aims of seeking their protection and enhancement , while promoting their
understanding and enjoyment.
We changed our name in 2005 to reflect our terms of reference more accurately.
What
is our area of concern?
We define our area of concern as the rural parishes of Constantine,
Cury, Grade Ruan, Gunwalloe, Gweek, Landewednack, Manaccan, Mawgan-in-Meneage,
Mullion, St Anthony-in-Meneage, St Keverne and St Martin-in-Meneage.
In this way we include the parishes that affect the setting of the Lizard
as well as those on the Peninsula itself.

Our
Constitution
Our aims for the Lizard:
• Promote recognition of and pride
in the special qualities of the Peninsula;
•
Seek the conservation of architectural, natural and historic features,
in order to preserve and enhance the Peninsula's character and local distinctiveness;
•
Promote particularly high standards of planning, architecture and land
management, appropriate to the area's environmental importance;
• Educate
and interest the public on all aspects of the Peninsula's environment
and history.
To achieve our aims we are constantly seeking mutually
beneficial relations with the County Council, Kerrier District Council
and our Parish Councils, with the policies and proposals set out in the
Regional and Local planning documents generally forming the bases of our
strategy. We also work closely with the very many national, county and
local amenity and environmental organisations whose objectives are sympathetic
to our own. We are now group members of the CPRE and registered with the
Civic Trust as the Civic Society for the Lizard Peninsula. |
